Patricia Urquiola Designs Mandarin Oriental Residences Dubai — Handcraft Meets Biophilic Interior
Patricia Urquiola's interior scheme for the 200-unit Mandarin Oriental Residences in Dubai Business Bay layers Andalusian zellige tile, loom-woven textiles, and hand-hammered brass into a biophilic framework — with living walls in every principal room and a suspended herb garden above the kitchen.

Patricia Urquiola's interior scheme for Mandarin Oriental Residences Dubai integrates Andalusian zellige tile (imported from Fez), handloom-woven textiles (produced by Rajasthan weavers), and hand-hammered brass elements into a biophilic framework with living walls in every principal room and a suspended herb garden visible from the kitchen.
Studio Urquiola said the project 'explores the dialogue between Moorish craft traditions and contemporary Emirati living — Dubai is a city that belongs to the whole world, so its interiors should draw from the full breadth of human craft heritage.' The residences achieve LEED v4 Gold certification and use a cooling system powered entirely by rooftop solar.
