V&A Dundee has welcomed its one-millionth visitor since opening in September 2018 — Scotland's only dedicated design museum and Kengo Kuma's first building in the United Kingdom.
The building's most distinctive feature is its facade of 2,500 pre-cast concrete panels, each individually angled to create a surface that reads as a sea cliff from the River Tay waterfront. Kuma drew the inspiration from the geology of Scottish coastal landscapes.
Director Joanna Norman announced the museum will expand its 2026–27 programme with a major retrospective on Scottish textile design, tracing the industry from 18th-century linen mills through to contemporary fashion and technical textiles used in aerospace and medicine.
The milestone coincides with a £1.2 million renovation of the museum's ground-floor galleries, funded through the Scottish Government's Creative Industries Fund.
